Review # 1 was written on 2010-05-29 00:00:00 Ron Mencel Very interesting and pleasantly written history of Titia, the first (in many generations) western woman to have (briefly) lived in Japan. Having recently played "Ghost of Tsushima" ' although it takes place earlier ' I could imagine the experience it must have been to be in such a strange land in that time, under not very enviable circumstances, to say the least.. The accompanying dvd documentary was very nice and added to the total historical experience of this work. All in all, very happy to have learned about Titia's story and to quite an extent also that of Decima and early 1800s in general! |
Review # 2 was written on 2016-09-17 00:00:00 Julia Nelson Some good, albeit micro, information regarding the domestic political landscape. A bit more depth on LDP relative dominance despite a lack of public support would be useful. Definitely in need of an update, a lot has happened since 2000. |
