Review # 1 was written on 2014-11-05 00:00:00 Myra Moore As I just finished Luhrmann's When God Talks Back, I can't help wondering what makes Csorda's Sacred Self so difficult to absorb...Both focus on the subjective experiences created by religious practices (prayer practices are significant in both) and both rely heavily on an psychological perspective. Certainly it is much more than a writing strategy as Luhrmann leaves much of her theoretical discussions in end-notes and presents her chapters largely in a narrative form...More to come.. |
Review # 2 was written on 2012-05-21 00:00:00 Deborah Duphily Been a while since I have found a piece of anthropological theory challenging, but I loved chewing through this one. A really interesting, theoretically grounded, intelligent take on the immaterial and lived/experienced elements of culture. |
