Review # 1 was written on 2011-07-08 00:00:00 Adrienne Kutner The strength of this book is the amount of scholarship put into the different philosophers and events that may have influenced Mao. It's not overly-technical, the citations are easy to follow and the chapters progress nicely. The thing I disliked about the book is evident in when I said "... that MAY have influenced Mao." Often Wakeman just seems to be explaining popular philosophy of the time, but not how it actually was linked to Mao. He will often say why he speculates a link, but often not at all. |
