This book focuses on the history of the Southern Pacific Railroad. The photographs in this book are outstanding! I do think the author tends to sugar-coat some of the double dealing that the company did in it's past, but I guess I can't hold that against him since it's only about the one railroad. This is a great coffee table book for railroad enthusiasts.

How good can an overview of the last 1500 years of warfare be? Pretty darn good. Keegan once again demonstrates his keen ability to dissect the history and progression of men in war. I was originally a little uncertain about the divisions of the material into the branches of the armed forces, but it works out beautifully and gives a solid chronological progression of the weapons and techniques that have shaped our history. Even better, it's fascinating reading! No dry stuff here.
