Review # 1 was written on 2008-12-10 00:00:00 Brandon Messmer This is the second book of a series but can be read as a stand alone. This takes place in the Dragonlance universe. This book tells the state of the world during a specific time period. It is done by characters who describe conditions in either letters or journal entries. This was an improvement over the first book of the series. This one had four different stories so each one could delve into the material. That being said this series is not the most enjoyable from this universe. The reason for this is that it is very dry and factual. Also, if the reader does not have prior knowledge of this universe the reader would be totally lost. These stories are not really stories. We never get an in depth view of the characters. The progression of the characters and their current situation are streamlined. These books are meant for world building enthusiasts. Unfortunately, this does not include me. I need a story with characters who I can root for or jeer. This series does not provide this and I would only recommend this for readers who want the background information.

Review # 2 was written on 2008-06-21 00:00:00 Paul Alves I bought a handful of these at a library sale for about a dollar each, hoping they would help generate ideas for my own world building. There is some interesting elements in these books and it cannot be easy to make the lives of the common folk interesting in a world built to tell heroes stories. It was far from the best rpg fantasy I have read, but not the worst thing written.
