Patina, Patina, Patina! This 2003 book is full of lovely photos showcasing amazing homes whose owners are proud to share their time-worn, even shabby, interiors. These much loved homes from Europe and America are often old (mostly 18th and 19th century) and feature awesome antiques, peeling paint, ripped upholstery and other super interesting architectural details that remind even those of us with much more humble homes that we can enjoy the richness of a variety of layered patinas.

I love this book and return to it frequently just to stroll through wonderful old rooms. I strenuously disagree with the Goodreads description, however. This is not a decorating guide for people who just want the look of an old house, but a source of inspiration and dreaming for those who love the real thing. If you're that sort of person too, a good companion to this book would be Old Houses, by Steve Gross.
