Detailed tributes to Stieglitz from writers and artists who had his support, often very early in their careers. I knew about his own photography, but not much about his role as an impresario. Apparently those invited to contribute (or who volunteered?) for this book could ramble on at any length and what they wrote would all go into the big book. Except for Gertrude Stein's one-pager, most of the entries would have been better if shorter. But there's fascinating stuff in every entry.

This book can be quite explicit at times. I'm amazed how he makes flowers look good, with lighting, positioning, etc. this is not a subject matter i would generally like, but somehow it is intriguing. I deduct a mark because some of his later work has this 80's ghastly glare, that does not do it for me.
