Engineering Economy is the process of buying equipment for business or industrial use. The book discusses the ideas behind making these decisions. If you need to buy a new piece of equipment, there are many options available. As an engineer, you need to take cost into account. There might be a better way to accomplish something. "Principles of Engineering Economy" is an outdated book. It is from 1983, before the advent of widespread computer usage. The calculations include Compound Interest problems, Probability, Taking Roots, and so on. Maybe this book has a modern incarnation, but I didn't look it up.
