Student almanac of Hispanic American history (Vols. 1-2). (2004). Greenwood Press. Citation by: Leah Clark Type of Reference Work: Almanac Call Number: Ref 973 Content/Scope: The volumes of this work trace the history of Hispanic influence on American History from the time of Christopher Columbus to present day. The purpose is to provide information about Hispanic American history to student readers. Accuracy/Authority/Bias: The publishing company had many historical reference books published and are known for their educational content. Arrangement/Presentation: There are two volumes that make up the work. The work is arranged chronologically with alphabetical entries for people, events, and terms. There are plenty of charts, maps, timelines, and black and white photographs. Both volumes have a bibliography and an index. Relation to similar works: This touches on some of the same people as the biographical reference material. However, the focus of this work is on the Hispanic influence over time. Timeliness/Permanence: The historical nature of the volumes are lasting, but will need updating for the current events. Accessibility/Diversity: The book is written for upper elementary students, however, the graphics and text features make is somewhat accessible for lower level readers. The book itself addresses the cultural diversity within our country. Cost: This is a more expensive item because of the multi-volumes. However, the need for the item to address the diversity of student learners justifies the expense. Also, the books have information that is lasting. Book Review: Quinn, M. (2004). Student almanac of African American history/Student almanac of Asian American history/Student almanac of Hispanic American history...(book). Book Links, 13(3), 11.
