A Mutual Interest After a rocky start, Frances and Wilson Catchner become friends when they discover that they both share an interest in geology. This doesn't set well with Wilson's parents especially after Frances puts the idea of college in Wilson's mind. His parents think the idea of the earth being millions of years goes against their beliefs and they don't want Wilson reading any books about it. Therefore, Wilson hides the book that Frances gave him instead of returning it as his parents had told him to do. Wilson takes a job on an oil rig so as to save enough money to attend college, regardless of the fact that he is deathly afraid of being on the oil rig. Knowing Frances aversion to having an oil well on her land by the river, he alerts her to the company's plans. Frances sends several letters to key persons who she thinks might be able to halt drilling on her land, although she has no mineral rights to her land. Will Wilson survive long enough on the oil rig to save enough money for college? Will Frances be able to save her land and the river?
