I don't normally review books on here but this one certainly deserves a few words to justify my rating. I picked this up because it is recommended by Aaron Brown (gambler, poker player, options trader, and risk manager). It seems like one of his pet peeves is this misconception about the futures market as a price insurance, rather than an access insurance. Williams does a great job of bringing up all the conventional views and debunking them in relatively clear language, even for a layman like I. This book is dense but has given me a rich appreciation for the purpose of futures markets, and armed me with knowledge of what they are not. My main gripe is that Williams, for better or worse, really hammers in his point. I feel like I've read the book at least three times, although I've only went through it cover-to-cover once. Yes, this is according to how a memorable argument is formed (tell them what you're going to tell them, tell them, then tell them what you've told them) but it makes the small side-insights much harder to get to. See, this book is not just about futures markets. It also touches on a lot of what is probably common sense to someone in the business. But to me, these small little remarks capture a ton of financial wisdom that I otherwise would not think of. Half the pleasure of the book came from these. As far as I'm concerned, slightly less repetition about the futures markets would have allowed these independent nuggets more room to shine. But then again, I'm probably not the target audience for this book. Despite that, I got a hell of a lot out of it. It is a good book, and I would recommend it in a heartbeat to anyone who suspects they might have a remote interest in the area.
