Review # 1 was written on 2012-08-31 00:00:00 John Roberts This is the ONLY book I have found in all of my gender studies and non-fiction wandering that takes neither a pro nor a con stance on pornography. It gives the reader the history of porn, takes them through the multifaceted realm of sexual fantasy and provides the modern implications of internet and i-porn... but never once does it condemn or praise. A breath of fresh air for those who want a straight (no pun intended) look at the world of pornography. |
Review # 2 was written on 2021-01-06 00:00:00 David Goeldi This is one of the few non-textbooks I've come across to cite specific research related to pornography as being non-harmful, or at the very least, as having a neutral impact. In the end, it basically says - "don't pay attention to the moral crusaders who want to ban all porn, here's the research saying it's not bad - and if you want to read those articles, you'll come to realize that there's no basis for these moral entrepreneurs' claims of the harm that comes from porn..." I liked the brief overview of the history of porn, the changing definitions of pornography over the ages, and the systematic evaluation of legal, moral, religious, & feminist objections to porn. |
