Review # 1 was written on 2020-06-24 00:00:00 William Richardson Accurate explanation of some of the common misconceptions of the pharmaceutical industry. However, I was hoping the author would also shed a light upon the few scandals (e.g. the scandal around Vioxx of Merck) that has heavily discredited the pharmaceutical industry for the general public. The author did an excellent job in describing the many, often overlooked, positives about the industry, which probably was the main goal of this book. But because of the missing negatives, the book feels a bit biased and incomplete. Thus, I think that the target audience might not be completely convinced after reading this book (although I highly doubt that a large group of them would even be willing to discuss their thoughts on Big Pharma with an open mind).

Review # 2 was written on 2012-04-03 00:00:00 Nicholas Conway I was very glad to be able to read an honest insider account regarding pharmaceutical research and development, as I have gotten very wary in recent years with the anti-scientific sentiments being stirred by paranoid alternative health advocates and vaccination opponents. Still, I often felt as though LaMattina was simply penning a love letter to the industry, and that he did little to actually allay concerns over problems with the pharmaceutical field, preferring instead to set up and dismantle strawmen than to seriously address issues such as developing nations limited access to life-saving drugs or the effectiveness of "home remedies" (The only example he really delved into was Asprin... that's really not the home remedy people paranoid about "Big Pharma" need to have debunked).
