I felt like this book spent the first 135 pages convincing you why you should do dog-friendly training and why you should have a trained dog. Well, since that's the title of the book and I'm reading it, there is no reason to harp on it. I didn't feel that there was a whole lot of instruction given on house training except to learn your puppy's toileting schedule and make sure you get them outside. Nothing about how to get a puppy to ring a bell, bark at the door, or otherwise indicate they want to go out rather than just want something that you need to decipher. Once you get to page 136 and some actual useful instructions, they still do not deal with specific problem behavior other than just ignore it and it will gradually go away. Um, yeah, not always. I'd rather be proactive in getting rid of bad habits. So, if you've never had a dog before and need to know why no one wants to be around your obnoxious, jumping, nipping, yapping dog, then you should definitely read this book. If you already know you want to train your dog, look for a book with more specific directions.

Very informative. Simple, easy to follow instructions on training your puppy or new dog. This book takes a positive approach to the training process. It covers house training as well. The only thing I found lacking were tips to prevent unwanted behaviors.
