Review # 1 was written on 2008-11-17 00:00:00 William Reynolds The book is a collection of his columns from the period (late 70s to early 80s). Many I had read at the time and others not. It is classic George Will, libertarian (not conservative). Many of the essays were less interesting now since the rant was based on some narrow Washington issue that I can't remember or never knew. There were no new insights into Will's politics. Many of his views, I share, but back in the day I thought of him as to the right of me. He remains a classic libertarian, old-school Republican in my view. His logic is no doubt not embraced by the neo-cons and crack-pot right, largely because they lack his capacity for nuanced-balanced thinking and grasp of American history. Reading it now as history, puts the current political climate of North America in stark perspective. We are due for a pendulum swing back toward the center, I hope. |
