Review # 1 was written on 2019-09-26 00:00:00 Michael Greffer This book was both surprising and productive. The challenges of rural health are profound. However the ethical decisions made by medical and allied health professions are vast. Klugman and Dalinis have gathered an array of productive chapters. There is attention to the plurality of ruralities. I was fascinated by the specific study of the elderly who migrate to rural environments for the remainder of their life. This is a worthwhile book for scholars of rural environments, rural injustice and rural health.

Review # 2 was written on 2018-01-07 00:00:00 Swedee Alkhafaji I found a copy of this book on the shelf at my father's nursing home and decided to order myself a copy. Having just qualified for Medicare, I'm trying to figure out who I am, and I thought this book would help. No. It's not a bad book; it's just not for me. I needed specifics, I got generalizations. McCain, a psychotherapist, could not resist writing psychobabble underlaid with a New Age philosophy that denies the existence of any higher power beyond Mother Earth. She wraps her ideas around the elements--earth, air, fire and water--with a good dose of Greek and Roman mythology and offers a list of principles for being not just an old lady but an "elderwoman." They are good principles, things like simplicity, caring for the earth, being earth-centered, and finding balance. Embrace each moment with "radical aliveness," she says. Meditate, eat natural foods, exercise, recycle. All good, but it was a slow read and not quite what I was hoping for. The book is well researched with an extensive bibliography.
