Review # 2 was written on 2018-10-11 00:00:00 Jose Ramirez If you enjoyed the series, 'One Foot in the Grave', you will, hopefully, enjoy the book. The TV series occasionally hinted at tragedy in the Meldrews' lives. I don't think its precise nature was ever made clear (though I may be wrong as it's a while now since the series was on TV). It is identified here. The book is the usual mix of comedy and pathos, and the characters definitely come alive on the page. David Renwick has an amazing imagination. There's nothing new here - just events from the TV show cobbled together, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. However 'unbelievable' Victor's life is, Renwick's genius is in making it completely believable at the same time. It's made me want to revisit the TV series again - which I now will on DVD.
