3 1/2 stars. It was good, it was well-written and thought-out, definitely one of the best Regency romances I've read, but...I'm just not a big fan of Regency romances. The romance is often too slow, and overly polite because of the view of the ton. But anyone who likes Regencies will LOVE this one. The drama is good, and from the time that Meryon told Elena to become his mistress and she (the daughter of a duke) declined, I couldn't put it down. But that was about 200 pages in of the 400, and the first part of it was fairly boring. Too much description on things that had nothing to do with the plot. ::shrugs:: But again, I'm not a huge fan of Regency romances. As far as I can like them, this one's great.

This third book of the Pennistan series wasn't as intriguing as Nos. 1 and 2. However, it did focus on the life of a Duke during that period. Which, as the author explained in the 'Author's Note", was her purpose. The life of The Duke of Meryon had equal billing with the love story. In fact, the love story was almost secondary. I did find this very interesting in terms of his life and the history of the times in which he lived. I have read many Regency 'Duke' stories, but this is the first time I got a real sense of what role a Duke played in this period. I liked him, but really was not enamored of the heroine.
