I read this one sort of by accident. I opened the cover, started reading, got hooked and finished it in one sitting. OK, it's recommended for young readers, but I ask, "Why should the kids have all the fun?" This is a great book about the American Revolutionary war. It is not about the battles, or politics, but it is written from the prospective of the people who were there. It tells about the different nationalites and races and religions of the people. And it tells why they fought. Very great book with plenty of new information for all readers, young and old.

This book shares the roles and impact of lesser known participants of the Revolutionary War. Blacks, women, children, Native Americans and people of diverse nationalities all fought for freedom. Of particular interest to me was the discussion of the importance of the Rev War in moving this country to abolish slavery. We tend to think only of the Civil War, but the groundwork started much earlier. A nicely done, interesting volume.
