I am not sure which version to pick for "The Monroe Doctrine". I read it online. I found the concepts taught to be very thought provoking. It seems to state a clearer foreign policy stance while also making bold moves to annex other parts of the American continent. One of the most interesting facts was that slave trading ships were considered as piracy according to this document, yet it was before the civil war as I understand it. Monroe appeared to allow slavery in some respects and then call it an evil practice in another. I'll need to study this one a bit more to understand it better.

A mere two years - 1898-1900 - gives Beisner the opportunity to discuss an array of characters, in context, who spoke and acted against the US's attempts at creating an empire. Because I know little of this subject, I was especially appreciative and Beisner's clear prose and his penchant for making sure the reader will understand his discussions.
