Review # 1 was written on 2019-08-21 00:00:00 Jeremiah Riehl Fascinating and candid memoir of a truly remarkable composer. The pace can be rather slow at times and is geared most prominently towards (who else?) musicians, but fans of Rimsky-Korsakov's oeuvre will likely find something to enjoy. It's a real treat to read a memoir free of both conceit and overripe prose, and R-K cuts straight to the point, making no attempt to spare his pride along the way. Over these 400-some pages one comes to truly appreciate the nature of the composer. A subtle kindness is interwoven like a fine silk through each chapter. If you like music, this is a book to read fireside on a winter night. It evokes that sort of dacha feel, and, upon closing, it's almost like bidding farewell to an old friend. |
Review # 2 was written on 2019-04-16 00:00:00 Josh Neil Tengo la edición española de José Janes. Es un libro muy interesante para los amantes de la música clásica. Abarca casi toda su producción, ya que lo terminó unos años antes de morir. |
