Review # 2 was written on 2011-10-04 00:00:00 Amanda Rhodes I've long since found that literature is one of the best ways to improve your foreign language skills and this still holds true having read this book. The great thing about learning French is that there is an amazingly vast Ĺ“uvre of great literature to pick from, and this collection of short stories does not disappoint. If you're not familiar with the francophone world, then you'll be surprised to find how many French-speaking countries are represented here. There are stories from Congolese, Senegalese, Algerian, Vietnamese, and Haitian authors to go along with the expected Canadian and French ones. I could never say that French lit is better than English lit, or visa-versa, but I will say that genuine (non-translated) French lit is a far more global experience than that of English works. The book here does a great job of giving us a sampling of great lit all around the world and I would highly recommend it. |
