A very insightful read for more reasons than I think Joffe realizes. For one, his description of anti-Americanism as simply a continuation of a variety of what he terms "anti-isms" can be a useful mirror to reflect back on the United States and some of the concerns that have wracked its population and thus its political culture. I also thought that Joffe's prescription for American foreign policy was a very apt one, though the expression "easier said than done" comes to mind. The writing style was also very accessible to the general population, as befits a newspaper editor. It was also in its own way beautiful and almost poetic at times, something I rarely find in political books. However, this does lead to a significant weakness, as I think Joffe at times gets so carried away in his prose that he accidentally gives our culture a bit more credit than it deserves. Another weakness was that, although I liked his overall model of US uberpower as it plays out in different areas, it's noteworthy that even though he included almost everywhere including sub-Saharan Africa in his belts somewhere, South America was conspicuously absent. I couldn't help but wonder why. Did it simply not fit well into his theory?

this book is for those who are still immersed into this world is artificially be made to be polarized..the military might, the build up and the world competitiveness...but again..leaving out the most important questions: why to outcompete? who are behinds to scene to strive and drive for the supreme status and what for?
