Review # 1 was written on 2011-10-06 00:00:00 Jiaying Mao I really liked the first 3 chapters of this book - they are pretty high-level, but do a good job of laying paradigmatic groundwork for computational modeling. Chapter 5 is also fairly relevant conceptually to some of my current research, but didn't contribute a lot of new concrete knowledge. I'm skeptical of Chapter 4 - the modeling seems sound, but I deeply question the wisdom of encouraging C for application work. But it isn't targeted at me - this book is more targeted at social scientists who need to model than computer scientists working on social problems. |

Clear, understandable, containing loads of examples and exercises to grasp the basics. After this you may embark on Saunders' book. After all, Awodey was a doctoral student of Saunders'. |
