It has a definite bias towards chemicals and manufacturing, which shouldn't surprise, but did. For example, "aluminum is nontoxic." The level of detail varies wildly. Here's this sentence (abridged) about motion sickness medicines: "Ethanolamine-derived H1 antagonist antihistamines used to treat motion sickness include diphenhydramine HCl [2-(diphenylmethoxy)-N,N-dimethylethylamine hydrochloride; C17H21NO-HCl] and dimenhydrinate [8-chloro-3,7-dihydro-1,3-dimethyl-1H-purine-2,6-dione compound with ..... Diphenhydramine HCl provides a competitive reversible blockade of muscarinic receptors, thereby inhibiting cholinergic neurotransmission via acetylcholine at muscarinic receptor sites and acting as an antiemetic." But then when it talks about insecticides, which I'd really like to know more about, here is all it says: "Most traditional insecticides work on the nervous system." hmmm Very dry. Even reference books can be a little more exciting than this! BUT, I must say I'm glad there is a place to look up the chemicals that makes my dish soap soapy, and how the air-bag in the car is deployed, all about sunless tanning lotions and the history of lipstick. |
