Review # 1 was written on 2013-07-08 00:00:00 Robert Wolf Jackson Jones is helping a neighbor when he takes a cutting of a rose from a cemetery. Bad things start happening to everyone around Jackson. A haunted rose or just coincidences? He has to take the cutting back to the grave where it belongs before anything else happens. I enjoyed the unusual setting of inner city community garden and Jackson's circle of friends. The story moved along nicely with good pace and there's just enough humor to keep it lively. I think 3rd through 5th graders would enjoy this. |
Review # 2 was written on 2011-04-29 00:00:00 Melissa Black Altough I haven't read the others in this series, this one stands alone fine, and stands out by being a book about a boy who cares about flowers as well as basketball; a book about an African American kid in which being an African American kid is not a major issue of the story, or even mentioned (just illstrated on the cover); and a ghost story that takes place in the middle of a hot summer, and mostly during daylight hours. |
