It took me a really long time to read this book even though it's not actually that long of a book. I don't view myself as angry. Why should I when the rest of the world will do it for me. I get annoyed at people, at life, lots of things but I wouldn't have called it anger. I don't go off. I have rants about things but even that isn't directed at anyone in particular. No one will ever have to feel my wrath, but I did learn lot about myself in a way that was culturally accessible. I know that for some people the field of psychotherapy and general therapy works. I believe that if you need help and know you need it then go, especially if that works for you. I picked up this book because the title was a phrase I knew and grew up with. I usually avoid telling anyone that something is culturally appropriate but it was. I even saw similarities between this book and the New Co-Dependency book. Going off focused on behaviors and the emotions behind those behaviors. It described some of my experiences and some of my beliefs. And while I view the book as not pathologizing emotions or behaviors, it does place those behaviors under a category called the Invincible Black Woman (IBW) Syndrome. And even though I still don't view myself as angry I can see that I fall into the category in a lot of ways. I think that the book is a good starting point but I wish that the book was a little less christian and a lot less hetero. I had whole chapters that I just skipped. My relationship with men (non-existent), my relationship with my kids (I don't have any), and my relationship with other women (bingo! oh, darn you meant sisterfriends...) Any way, It's an old but useful book especially if you are a christian hetero black woman. I believe in taking what I can from any book I read.

It's a good book to reflect in our negotiation processes. I believe that if we wait a few years and then read it again, we will find a lot of new things. Since is a kind of list about several topics is sometimes a little bit hard to read a lot of pages in the same day. But I would say that is a good slow reading book. :)
