Re Flirting With Danger - Kate Walker gets a bonus book for the Dangerous Liaisons series for June of 1996. We also get the question: What is the difference between an obsessed stalker and a KW HP Hero? This one features a 26 yr old children's tv host h who is being stalked by an obsessed fan. Her father brings home the really big 6'4" ex-army-now-security-specialist H, who is doing a security camera project for the h's dad's business. The H decided to tag along with the h's dad when he said he had to leave early to check on his daughter. The h's stalker has gotten to the point where the h feels continually under siege, she is seriously anxious and jumpy. Every time the phone rings or there is a knock on the door, the h panics. She has moved back into her father's house because she doesn't feel safe anymore and when the H arrives, she is very agitated about the stranger in her midst. In typical HP H bullying fashion, the H manages to force/bully the h into revealing her stalker problem and then he forces his way into becoming the H's bodyguard/protector. The h is partially panicked at the H's aggressiveness in getting close to her and partially reassured as the HP Lurve Force Mojo raises it's amplification vibes. The H decides the h is too vulnerable in London, her dad is going out of the country for business and the stalker is getting too close. So the H spirits the h out of town to his family's farm, warning the h not to tell anyone where she is at. The h tells her agent she is leaving London and gives her the general area. We then get a three or four chapters of push/pull behavior from both the H and the h. The H acts seductive one minute then freezes the h out the next. The h does the same and it isn't until the H's 16 year old sister shows up and claims the H saw her on TV a month before the stalking began that the h starts to worry. This worry doesn't stop her from having a big Lurve Club Explosion Purple Passion Moment with the H tho. It isn't until the Transcendent Golden Shores of Bliss are walloped upon that the h has her "OMG, the H is the Stalker" freak out rant. The police call just as the h is finishing up her big post coital denouement, the stalker has been identified and it isn't the H. So the h has to apologize and the H gets even more stalkerific when he announces that the h will be paying for that accusation. The stalker is actually the stepson of the h's female agent. When the h called her agent to give her an general idea of where she was at, the lady apparently went and blabbed it all over, even tho she knew the h was in hiding from a seriously sick stalker. The woman actually expects to be apologized to for giving the h's secret location away and the H tells the h she has to do it. The H and h are now ready to discuss what kind of relationship they are heading into, but as the h starts questioning the H on his motives, the stalker guy breaks in and the H and stalker guy get into a big fight with a knife. The h is terrified and shouting out she loves the H and then the H wins the fight and the stalker guy is hauled away. There is big love declarations on both counts and after the H is positive the h is willing to shackle herself to the H for life, we learn that H really is a stalker too. He saw the h on TV, got all hot and bothered, (enough that his 16 yr old sister teased him about it,) and then deliberately tried to get the h's father's business. He pushed the h's father to bring him back to meet the h and then he pushed the h to explain her situation and then he took over and hauled her off to have her to himself. But in KW's HPlandia, it is okay to be a stalker guy if you're the H and have Lurve Force Mojo, so we leave the two of them lurved up and planning the wedding for the big HEA. This one was a lot of bickering and the h was totally neurotic until she was too busy vamping the H up. The H wasn't much better and the push/pull got tiring after a while. Plus, I wasn't seeing too much difference between the creepy stalker guy and the H. Also, someone needs to get the HP version of Gavin de Becker over to the HP Hero school ASAP, cause this H was woefully inadequate as the catcher of creepy stalker guys and he only won in the end cause he did do his daily HP H insta-muscle workouts and practiced a scarier scowl that the creepy stalker guy when the police showed up.

Well this one is kinda different to others in the line. I also suspect at the time it was written that it was extremely topical as stalkers were becoming more prevalent in the news and the Protection from Harassment was about to be passed (in 1997). It tackles a serious subject which has only become unfortunately more of a problem as technology and social media become more advanced making it much easier to track folk down. Our h in this one is rather a wally, for someone terrified and scared of her own shadow she certainly doesn't seem to see anything wrong about telling people where she is/has been and I dread to think what would have happened to her if she had been let loose on facebook. The H is definitely a grumpy stalker type himself and I found it rather gross that his stalker behaviour was rewarded with the h as his prize just because he could protect her from the "original" dude. It just showed that his line of work gave his stalkerific ways merit. These 2 miserys/idiots deserve each other tbh.
