It felt like a chore to read this book. After getting through about 1/3, I set it aside and read something else before finally getting back to this book. The crazy thing is that I don't know why I didn't like it. It wasn't poorly written - I just didn't enjoy it. My pet peeve was the repetitive use of the word "cheroot". It bugged me to no end. And the plot never really had much climax. The main problem was the secret the heroine was hiding, which wasn't even that big of a deal. I felt like the authors (yes, it was a joint effort) kept the book going on for too long. When she finally shared the secret, several people had already figured it out. I felt no connection to the characters. To be honest, the dialogue was really cheesy. Too many "Oh, Case!" and "Oh, Katlyn". The characters felt fake, I guess.

Started on January 14, 2018 - finished on March 13, 2018. Took me 2 months to finish the book. Really average read - I mean really average. I can usually polish off a Harlequin Historical in a day or two but this one was a plodder. There was simply no spark there to light a fire under me.
