I generally really enjoy Rae Muir, but this one was very meh to me. This book is part of a series, and I have read other books in it. They just dont hold up to standard of The Pearl Stallion, which is her first book. ::sigh:: I dont know. Theyre all travel novels, where the characters are on a journey. Maybe its that The Pearl Stallion holds the journey entirely, while the books in this series are all on the Oregon Trail, the journey stretches across all of them, so you dont have the resolution that you have in the single book unless you read them all. Except then you dont to take the journey with one couple, but jump to different couples from book to book. Or maybe it was just that the main characters named was Hawken and he had amnesia. Yeah, amnesia. I dont know.

This book I picked as my challenge read for Amnesia Romance and it was a sweet romance. Hawken is a man heading west from Independence Missouri. He has 2 wagon loads of trading supplies to start a trading post in Bear River Valley. He's joining with a wagon train heading for California mostly a large extended family. He hopes someone may recognize him or that he looks like someone they know because he has no memory of his life except the last three years. He's been wandering taking odd jobs then gambling and winning the money for Bear River Valley. Meggie MacIntyre meets Hawken as he is waiting for the wagon train she has ridden out ahead riding astride and makes an impression. She likes what she see and decides he is good husband material. their romance is tentative at first and grows stronger as they face the hardships of the trail. When Hawkin finally remembers....... It's an exciting read for an exciting and dangerous time in history
