I really enjoyed this Harlequin Historical just because it was different. The heroine was an Egyptian high priestess with a pet panther, and the hero was a veteran commander in Alexander the Great's conquering army. I enjoyed the humor of the book, like how the heroine is actually a beer drinker (because the Egyptians grow so much wheat) while the hero prefers wine. And there was a cute secondary romance as well, with an older woman and a younger man. It's just so nice to see a Harlequin Historical that's not a Regency!

I just recalled this book and reread it. It's just as fabulous as I thought it was many years ago. There aren't many romances like this anymore - old-school with excellently written characters and a sense of wonder. And I loved the way the author handled the cultural differences that sprang from the fact that an ancient Egyptian woman was forced to wed one of Alexander the Great's soldiers. And the Egyptian rites and rules concerning marriage added a spicy touch to the whole thing...
