Another one of YW's heroines with absolutely no pride in herself. She begs the "hero" for a one night stand despite the fact that he has done everything but tattooed the words "no commitment" on his forehead. She threw her principles (of "saving" herself for marriage) right out the window, because she decided after two freaking weeks, that he was her soul mate. Two years later, when he discovers their inevitable Seekret Baybee, she meekly submits to his orders for a marriage of convenience. She didn't even raise a finger to find out her legal rights, whether this virtual stranger was even a fit father for her child or find out what kind of situation she was walking into. This wasn't some downtrodden urchin living on the street for Pete'sake. She has an education, a white collar job making adequate money, and family and friends who could have offered support against this man's threats. Oh but I forgot. We are in HPlandia and the heroine luuuuuurves him and therefore will accept any crumbs from the hero of the piece, even when there is no love, affection, or respect in it. When he decides to consummate the relationship (after copiously torturing her with a sex-on-a-stick OW), she lets her traitorous body answer. I mean, there was absolutely NO fight in her. None whatsoever. And as usual, the OW gets off Scot-free and will undoubtedly spend the remaining years of her miserable life showing up at their dinner parties in slinky dresses, her arms possessively hanging off the husband while he looks down at her with resigned humor and the humiliated wife quietly seethes in a corner. What was the point of writing a story without conflict? *sigh* I'll never know.

This book is a classic secret baby book - the old school way. It follows the usual tropes and checks all the simplistic boxes that go with it! **with spoilers**One night stand with an explorer-scientist who warns her repeatedly that dont expect more, dont wait but does she listen? He leaves next morning for a year long trip - no goodbyes but leaves a dear h letter. Shes a nurse so she reads her symptoms correctly, leaves town to go to her aunt to have the baby. A nice om makes a gallant but hopeless appearance as her doctor boss. Two years down the line, the h/H meet again in a deja vu-ish way - at a party at the same friends place but now she has a secret and he has a gf in tow! He finds out about their son, they marry after a token revolt from her. The marriage remains unconsummated for some time - till such a time that she couldnt help herself and its also the moment of enlightenment - Oh God! I never stopped loving him. Ow is his boss daughter (werent they all, in those days?) and insinuates an affair and that hell leave the h for her. He also doesnt correct the h as jealousy is good, isnt it? And anything for the greater good! Another useful om makes a timely appearence. A couple of parties/dinners to pit gowns and increase the tension. Some more no-talking-only-brooding as well as troublemaking from the ow before sense/hea prevails!
