I have a sustained love for this little book. This was the second or third time I've read it, and it still stands up to repeated readings. The characters are likeable and have depth, and the writing is solid, and the author does a great deal with the space. While I am not as bowled over by the "younger man" plot than readers might have been when this was published, I still got the conflict and the heroine's reluctance to see anything real in the romance. Nothing in here left me shaking my head over the characters' stupidity or unclear motivations, and there is enough wit and charm to make this a keeper. ETA: Since this entry has no synopsis, I will try to pitch one in. Pam is a divorced mom to two and a caterer, barely making ends meet. Joel is a very nice college student who first befriends Pam and her boys at the grocery store where he works to make his tuition money. Eventually, Joel convinces Pam he can double her business if she hires him on, and, well, nature takes its course. (Emotionally, it's more complex here than I've summarized.) There is also a sweet subplot involving her likable sister and brother-in-law hammering out some marital issues. Dates are approximate, as I am behind in my GR reviews and am trying to catch up. ETA: Re-read, July 2016. Still enjoyed it.

"Even then, at eight years old, Lily had combined the vulnerability of a child with the beauty of a woman." Is that not the most revolting blurb ever?! It's like a sign saying, "pedophiles welcome!" The book itself is not that icky; the first third is unusual but good, the story of 16 year old Trace running away with his "step" cousin Lily to save her from his lecherous stepfather, and the hard times they encounter before a kind stranger takes them in. Unfortunately, I had trouble adjusting to them as a romantic couple after so much time of him being in the role of her protective older brother, and then an unexpected and tiresome suspense plot popped up, so I just didn't feel like finishing it. If you're a big fan of childhood sweethart type books, I suppose it's worth a try.
