This is kind of a B-movie of the usual Susan Fox, heroine-torturer author, fare. The requisite horrible SF parents are all off page, the H is stern but not mean, and the evil OW is dispatched a little too early in the book for too much angsty fun. PLOT: Downtrodden heroine is recovering from a horrific accident that killed her sister. All she wants to to do is just be a part of her niece and nephew's lives. The H is reluctantly okay with that when the little boy freaks out when he sees his aunt. Too many people played Jedi mind tricks on the little boy, and he's now afraid of his previously beloved aunt. The H is sane (what??) and gets to the bottom of the problem, and asks for a MOC. Sweet read with minor drama, minor romance, and a heroine that needs to be wrapped in cotton wool.

I have to laugh at the gorgeous locks on the cover model. The author makes heavy weather of the heroines close-cropped hair that she has to smooth down with mousse. She was in a car accident six months before and had to have numerous surgeries and then months of physical therapy and rehab so her appearance is far from healthy when the hero first sees her with her cane. The story opens with the heroine driving to the heros ranch to see her orphaned niece and nephew. Her sister died in the same car accident and the heros brother died in an alcohol-related accident/suicide? a few months later. Hero is their guardian now and hasnt answered any of the heroines letters or phone calls. Hero is prepared to blame the heroine for breaking up his brothers marriage, that she is a golddigger like her sister, etc . . . But quickly becomes her protector and then asks for a marriage of convenience (with sex) so the children will have a stable home. Theres an OW whose biggest mischief was keeping the h's letters from the hero and kissing the hero at his wedding reception, but she is quickly dispatched. This is SF-lite. Heroine is a lost lamb and hero is sweet to her. The neighbors welcome her and the kids are cute. Even the black moment last only half a day. Hero gives a beautiful explanation/declaration of love at the end that raises this a star.
