Theres something very Romancing the Stone about this book. Though, the only thing the two heroines really have in common is their complete lack of knowledge of the jungle setting. I love that Leslie isnt a wilting flower, but she was extremely frustrating to me. It took me a very long time to warm up to her because she spends a lot of this book living down to the very worst of the stereotypes about the spoiled, entitled rich. Cutter is a tightly closed book. Even by watching his actions closely, its difficult to get a proper read on him. You can tell that hes more than he appears to be, but just what that more really is, takes some more work to uncover. This is a pair that proves out the adage: the opposite of love isnt hate. There is so much passion and barely leashed tension between them, it was either going to end in a prison cell or a bedroom. Im not completely satisfied with all the consequences at the end of the book. I thought that one of the bad-ish guys got off far too lightly. But, since it gets us our happily ever after, I can be happy about it. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book through Booksprout.

I have always loved watching a good Western. And reading the descriptions of the land and the people living on it is almost like watching a movie. Great writing! I admit, Lesly irritated me at first because I hate spoiled brats. However, getting that irritated shows the great talent the author has. Not everyone can write characters with that much depth. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about double-crosses, guerilla forces, and all the action and danger and suspense. And, not to forget, the love/hate relationship between H and h. All in all, this was a great book that I highly recommend. * I was lucky enough to get my hands on an advance copy and voluntarily read and reviewed it. All opinions mentioned above are my own.
