Review # 1 was written on 2015-08-26 00:00:00 Randy Brown One of My Favorite Old Time Palmer Books FINAL DECISION: HIS GIRL FRIDAY is one of my favorite Palmer books. It takes the typical Palmer template: older experienced man who is gruff and somewhat of a woman hater and a sweet young innocent woman and elevates it through humor and good characters. THE STORY: Danetta Marist loves her gruff boss, Cabe Ritter. She believes in happy endings but knows that Cabe who is a womanizer is not the man for her. She has been trying to keep a distance between them because she knows that she could fall deeply in love with him and be vulnerable to him. Cabe uses his womanizer facade to protect himself from women who want a commitment. He hasn't been able to stop thinking of Danetta for months despite his best intentions. When Danetta is in danger, Cabe gets closer to her and both their intentions fall apart. OPINION: I really like this book because of its humor, its well executed story and the likeable characters. I am a fan of Palmer's books but sometimes the heroes are so bitter and cold that I have a hard time liking them. Here Cabe is gruff and commitment-phobic and while he is sometimes hurtful towards Danette, he recognizes his mistakes more quickly that I would expect and ultimately falls completely under Danette's spell. Danette is sweet and innocent, but she banters and fights with Cabe and doesn't back down from an argument. She has a fun sense of humor and her ignuana is simply hysterical. Cabe doesn't like reptiles and the situations that arise made me laugh out loud. There is nice chemistry between the hero and heroine and they seem more equal here than their boss/secretary relationship would suggest. I also liked the ongoing corporate espionage story even though the guilty part is obvious almost immediately. One of the books that really showcases Palmer's style and voice. WORTH MENTIONING: I loved the pet in this book -- an iguana named Norman who has an important role in the book. CONNECTED BOOKS: HIS GIRL FRIDAY is connected with HUNTER which tells the story of Danetta's cousin. STAR RATING: I give this book 4.25 stars.

Review # 2 was written on 2021-08-23 00:00:00 Tracey Orgeron I didn't particularly enjoy this book but it wasn't too bad. I love that Danetta had a pretty lizard alc I thought it was funny how everyone was scared of him. I didn't like Cabe at first and thought he was just an asshole and I hated how he tried to make Danetta jealous. I love how Cabe took her to his parents after her apartment had been broken into. I love that they finally got over their stupid shit and got married. 3.5 stars.
