the only thing more embarrassing than having read this book is that it is not the worst one I've read by far. INCREDIBLY improbable--on a level with having someone modern day be told by a king that they must wed--yes, it was very contrived. oh puh-leeze. and the ending felt very rushed and trite. but what should I have expected? it was a cheap romance novel, light on the sex, despite being obsessed with it. read it only if you have nothing better to do, and don't mind rolling your eyes a lot.

3 1/2 Stars ~ Yancie is a young woman who, though not spoiled, hasn't had to work. She'd been living with her step-father, but when her step-sister goaded her about her allowance and the car that was bought for her, she'd decided it was time to make a life for herself. With the help of her cousin Grenville, she got the job as a company chauffeur. Yancie has always been a very skilled driver. She's also impulsive and has a generous heart, so when a co-worker asks her to drop off a package to his mother during a waiting time for one of the companies directors, she can't refuse. Making her drop, she rushes to get back to her pick-up only to discover she's short of gas and in her haste to make the exit for the service station, she cuts off another driver. She's shocked to find the driver follows her and then proceeds to lecture her on her driving. Yancie figures she'll never see this man again, and so she doesn't hold her punches and declares that it's all his fault for following so closely. The next day, Yancie is called to the boss' office, and much to her chagrin the old boy she expected is really the young and angry driver she'd cut off. Thomson has never met anyone quite like Yancie, and though he knows he should fire her, he can't seem to bring himself to do that. I had a lot of fun reading this one. Yancie is a wonderful woman of contradictions and she charms her way into Thomson's heart. He's a cool customer, but her antics soon have him smiling and laughing out loud. Yancie's internal dialogues are hilarious as she tries to come to terms with her disconcerting feelings for her boss. This is one of those fun and flirty reads that are perfect to wile away a few cold and rainy hours.
