Oy. The godparents of an orphaned baby girl enter into a marriage of convenience in order to smooth the adoption of the baby. Baby is the daughter of heroines twin sister and heros best friend, and they both perished in an earthquake in Mexico. Now baby is in foster care and heroine thinks a single girl in a grotty bedsit has little chance of becoming an adoptive mother so she proposes a marriage of convenience to the hero, who conveniently has a mansion even though he is divorced and a reconfirmed bachelor. Throughout the marriage, heroine believes hero was in love with her twin sister and the baby is actually is. Hero meanwhile thinks heroine was having an affair with her sisters husband because he caught her naked in a bedroom during the babys christening party, and then ran into her brother-in-law coming up the stairs, no doubt to get a quickie. He thinks all women are insatiable nymphos since his first wife used to pull public sexual stunts like this all the time during their horrendous marriage. In the end, they are approved by the family court as adoptive parents. The night before they are to collect their daughter, they FINALLY both have a heart to heart and dispel all their Great, Big, Terrible Misunderstandings. Hero was never in love with heroines twin sister and is not the father of the baby. He initially tried to break up the courtship between his best friend and heroines sister because he thought she was a tart, like his first wife. But then he felt ashamed at himself when he saw how distraught his best friend was and what a nice girl the heroines sister turned out to be, so he brought them back together again and agreed to be godfather to their daughter to seal their friendship. Meanwhile, heroine went upstairs to one of the bedrooms during the christening party because her corset was suffocating her LOL She never had an affair with her brother-in-law. He was going upstairs too but certainly not to meet her for a tryst. Maybe he was going to the bathroom for Petes sake ! Anyways, what I couldnt get over was the fact that at the beginning of the story, heroine decided to place her orphan baby niece in foster care because.......she had the flu! Then was HORRIFIED and OUTRAGED when the authorities wouldnt release the baby back to her THREE WEEKS LATER cause thats how long it took for her to get over her illness. Like, who DOES that? Didnt she think um maybe her godfather could have have helped her out? A friend? A relative? Hire a nanny? Put her in day care? SOMETHING other than basically giving up custody? I really hope these two dingbats dont give her back like a puppy two weeks after the adoption decree :(

4 Stars for a convincing and engaging love story. 1 Star for the gee-I'm-paid-by-the-word writing style. 3 Stars for hero hitting my grr button every time he accused her of sleeping around or being a party girl. He had very little to base this on, mostly a hangover from his first wife's nasty habits. Did anyone edit this thing? I couldn't believe some of the sentences, they read the way someone would ham up a fake opera. On the other hand the story itself was great if you can stop wincing at the extra words she throws in.
