This story is not surprising or unexpected. It is predictable because of the world we live in now. As much as it was set in what seems like the 70s/80s it could be the story of today, which is beyond bleak. The story of racism and prejudice of lack of understanding and acceptance. This book is a good attempt of bringing to light the atrocities that used to happen and are still happening today. Misunderstanding from both sides and segregation.. Sad state of affairs.

i think even when i reread this thousand times and i bet, i wont ever get bored of it :) i so love the tinge of attraction between the protagonist(white woman) and Vijay (the indian guy on the cover). very subtle and beautiful :)
