Review # 1 was written on 2015-11-08 00:00:00 Hernan Romero This book is rather different than the other novels by Pamela Frankau that I've read, being a psychological thriller. It was published posthumously, and according to the forward seems to have been written largely by Frankau's cousin, Diana Raymond, using copious notes and plot outlines left behind after Frankau's death. I found it at times interesting (the central puzzle certainly is), but really, far too creepy to be enjoyable. Minor bit of ranting: How could anyone possibly ever have thought this jacket design would help sell the book? Perhaps someone in 1969 was perspicacious enough to realize that mustard yellow would be the color of the ensuing decade, but still. It's mentioned multiple times in the text that Col. Blessington is slim and sleek and nattily dressed, so the unappealing portly shambling man wearing a coat that might easily be a bathrobe doesn't belong here, and looking at him certainly doesn't make me intrigued and curious to know more about him!

Review # 2 was written on 2012-04-28 00:00:00 William Bitting I had been reading this book since 2017. That's goddamn crazy. It took me so long but what do you expect; poetry, after all, must be the enjoyed and read slowly. Carefully. Lovingly. And I did just that with Walt Whitman. I liked quite a few poems. And if not poems, then verses hidden inside of poems I though I don't really like much at all. Undeniably, this feels like a book meant to be read during summer. Now, I'm sitting on my bed, book beside me, a fan in front of me, making the hot weather more bearable. So, though there were poems I found quite boring and one's that didn't make me feel an ounce of emotion, there definitely were verses that got to me. They got me good. I consider writing a few of them on my bedroom wall. And I'll definitely write some verses into my "art book". Walt Whitman is a good poet.
