Review # 1 was written on 2019-12-22 00:00:00 Jonathan Tumin The h and H didn't put each other first and made a lot of mistakes with good intent but they both accepted their part in their past mistakes and that was a refreshing way to begin the book. But having acknowledged her role in their parting, "The lady doth protest too much, methinks" is the most apt way to summarize the whole book! The h who is now a doctor meets publisher/vintner H and never once sympathizes about his loss of parenting opportunity with his own kid or even apologizes or makes amends. The H made a mistake once in not immediately proposing on hearing h's pregnancy but its an overkill to not give him any opportunity to heal or grow. The author sympathizes more with H over the course of the book and writes from his perspective as the h moved on quickly to someone else even before she gave birth to his baby so must not have loved him much. |
Review # 2 was written on 2013-07-09 00:00:00 Josh Labass Well-rounded adventure story told in a strong voice. Watkins has been called an heir to Hemingway, and for once I can see the resemblance. A mysterious, loner lead character flies a plane for the French Foreign Legion in Northern Africa. |
