A remarkable collection of artistic poetry in a Victorian worldview filled with wistful hopes, evocative imageries, and deep emotions. Rossetti, a talented poetess, tackled recurring themes such as piety, love, sentimentalism, feminism, and somehow, like Emily Dickinson, had a penchant for death. My only gripe here is that I was not a fan of her religious poems, but it's still worth reading. I've only selected the poems that I found lovely and soul-stirring. Excerpts and commentaries follow thereafter. The Goblin Market An allegorical poem about temptation and redemption with sheer focus on sisterly love, sexual pleasures, or perhaps homosexuality (in another interpretation) as well as Victorian feminism. A cautionary poem laden with heavy themes. The Royal Princess An in-depth examination of privilege and entitlement from the perspective of a secluded and lonely yet kind-hearted princess. Heart's Chill Between and Death's Chill Between are early, twin love poems which Rossetti had written when she was 16 years old prior to being a known poet. Heart's Chill Between Death's Chill Between A Birthday A lovely, birthday dedication for one's own lover. Spring Celebrating life anew with the beauty of springtime. Life and Death A lugubrious look at both life and death. Somewhere or Other One of my favourite poems of Rossetti. Vivid, lush, and hopeful poem referring to one's soulmate. Rest Death bestows its blessing to end the unendurable agony. Another one of my favourites. Remember One of the greatest, heart-rending, gut-wrenching poems I've ever read. An unforgettable masterpiece! L.E.L. A mesmerizing, accessible poem. No Thank You, John This was a fascinating poem! Think of being friend-zoned during the Victorian era.

This poem is simply beautiful....... Remember Remember me when I am gone away, Gone far away into the silent land; When you can no more hold me by the hand, Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay. Remember me when no more day by day You tell me of our future that you plann'd: Only remember me; you understand It will be late to counsel then or pray. Yet if you should forget me for a while And afterwards remember, do not grieve: For if the darkness and corruption leave A vestige of the thoughts that once I had, Better by far you should forget and smile Than that you should remember and be sad. Christina Georgina Rossetti
