Well, there was drama even getting hold of this, eventually got an ex-San Antonio Public Library copy from a second-hand dealer. Was it worth the effort? Not really. The botany was meagre, the plot simplistic, and the whole thing read a bit like it had been created based on a tourist brochure of New Zealand. I remember enjoying this back in the 1980s, but now, not so much. Obviously my tastes have changed. The book is quite short (only 175 pages) and doesn't develop the plot much or build suspense. I'm thinking, stick to more contemporary material. Many older books hold their charm, but this one, unfortunately, didn't do that for me.

This is the second volume in a cozy series about sleuthing English botanist Celia Grant. I wasn't particularly thrilled with the first entry in the series but I'm glad I decided to stick with it. This entry is set in New Zealand and features foolish lords, morally-challenged MPs, leftist terrorists, and endangered alpine flora. If you're into plants the horticultural name-dropping will keep you googling. If this sounds like you're thing, give some John Sherwood mysteries a shot.
