Review # 1 was written on 2012-07-08 00:00:00 Editha Quirino Frank O'Connor is utterly dependable, and that does not mean that he is predictable and narrow. His stories sometimes are moral tales or parables, as happens in "Expectation of Life" and "The Pariah." They always have well-drawn characters in well-crafted scenes and plots. He knows his people well in all their deviousness, pettiness, fear, humour, affection, everything that goes to make up full lives. O'Connor is one of Ireland's greatest short story writers. |

I liked these stories. Ireland and people have changed so much though... |
