Review # 1 was written on 2011-08-02 00:00:00 Jack Byron The illustrations are cute and stylish, but I'm not sure the story really worked for me. I certainly get that little ones want to dress up like mommy, but I was a bit surprised at the mother in this book letting her daughter do cartwheels and dance around in four inch heels! That could be dangerous!!! It was also a bit hard for me to relate to such a stylish mother. Also, I just have a personal pet peeve about high heeled shoes and wouldn't really want to encourage my own daughter to wear them. But, gosh, maybe I'm just being a frumpy grumpy adult who just hasn't met the right pair of shoes yet ;-p And, in the end, Birdie realizes she can't do all the fun things she wants to with such crazy shoes and she wants to be barefoot--great message, but it just felt a little forced here. |
