The strength of this book is the description of the modern situation. Skillen sketches the rise of modern states from the ashes of Christendom, heavily influenced by Christian, Greek, and Roman-stoic thought. His description of American policy and civil religion was also helpful (and similar to Leithart's description in Between Babel and beast). His comparison of western states to Islam's development was all too short. His conclusions for the need of stronger transnational organizations to ensure inter-national peace and justice created more questions than answers.

I'm torn on this book. its incredibly interesting, in that it tells a story of power and corruption on the biggest stage of all. but, I feel like the way it was presented was more intended to smear than to present facts for the reader to decide. He cites to many incidents, but seemingly only with hearsay or allegations that piece the whole shebang together.. if he wrote it like a historian, with cites and such, it'd be a 4.5 out of 5.
