The average rating for Shakespeares after Shakespeare based on 2 reviews is 4 stars.
Review # 1 was written on 2009-11-24 00:00:00 Rebecca Bergman This review is for volume 2 only. While an important contribution to the growing field of the use of Shakespeare by popular culture, this book is a bit mixed. The chapters on plays, novels and short stories are very solid work. The chapter on UK television Shakespeare is exemplary. Richard Burt's lazy chapter on US television is a disgrace. Entries are incomplete, lacking even basic identifying data. Many are evaluated well, but many more evaluations are superficial, and worse, slap dash. I do not give this book a star rating because I was one of the contributors (Shakespeare on radio in the US and UK), and am not objective about my own work. |
