Review # 1 was written on 2015-01-08 00:00:00 Ronald Dodson This volume is probably the most nuanced and complete collection of articles I've encountered on the topic of authorship and author construction in fiction. It features the two hugely important essays by Barthes and Foucault on the matter in full text and elaborates in a very coherent and open-minded way. The editor, William Irwin, offers multiple perspectives which diverge sufficiently. He does grant himself the honor of having the last word by including one of his own essays, but thankfully he doesn't try to impose a singular answer to the question raised by the idea of (non)-existent authorial presence. Thanks, Willy. You made my academic life a bit easier. |
Review # 2 was written on 2018-06-11 00:00:00 Darrol Jones Wooly gathering of mostly boring essays on tired subjects. To make matters worse, the author favors certain terms, like "hackademic", that burn with a polemical fire too hot for this gentle reader. |
