An interesting collection of feminist essays covering a wide range of women in sci-fi; from novels to abstract short stories, and even popular series such a Star Treks. The collection as a whole emphasizes the footprint that the female characters have made in the science fiction world, in both a negative and positive light. It also takes a specialized look at the integration of the character regarding artificial intelligence and the unique perspective that cyberpunk adds. My favorite essay was Jane Donawerths, "The Feminist Dystopia of the 1990's : Record of Failure, Midwife of Hope". The collection also finishes off with a wonderful postscript the greatly summarizes, analyzes, and predicts the flight of the female characters within the realm of sci-fi.

An excellent collection of critical feminist essays about science fiction writing, with a focus on novels and short stories, but going into such areas as the Star Trek series and films as well.
