Review # 1 was written on 2015-10-24 00:00:00 Steven Hopkins This book is quite old as is Oracle 9i and it's been sitting on my office shelf for years. I finally got a chance to read it and it was a fair overview of what Oracle has to offer. However, the edition I had was filled with errors. For example, there was a section on Oracle Portal-to-go which is a technology that enables mobile users to access Oracle data via the web. The end of chapter quiz asked what technology should be used for mobile users. One of the answers was Portal-to-go which I selected. According to the answer key the answer should have been Oracle forms. I went back and looked at both the Oracle forms and Portal-to go-sections. Oracle forms didn't mention anything about mobile users. Portal-to-go didn't mention anything about Oracle forms. The only conclusion I have is that the answer key was wrong. That was one of many similar errors in the book. We're getting ready to move to 10g this weekend, but I think reading this book still gave me a good refresher over what I already knew and a few things that I didn't (because we don't use them). I would suggest that readers beware with books from Oracle Press unless things have changed a bit. I won't say that they're all like that since this is the only book I've read completely from cover to cover from Oracle Press. But I think my next book will be from O'Reilly or Sams.
